Frederik De Wilde was staying at artistic residency in CIANT Prague. The artist acts on the border area between science, technology and art. The conceptual crux of his artistic praxis are the notions of the intangible, inaudible, invisible. It is this interstitial territory that Frederik De Wilde explores in his various works. Sometimes on the side of the technological, and often in the perceptual, conceptual, social—human—register, De Wilde’s art is grounded in the interaction between complex systems, both biological and technological. Moreover, the indistinct, diffuse, ‘fuzzy’ arena where the biological and the technological overlap and commingle is a productive and favored ground for his projects/ projections.
Project Flu.Tu.Re
Within the frame of CIANT residency de Wilde started the collaboration with Slovak artist/programmer Andrej Boleslavský on code based artistic piece scanning the trajectory of flight of the tropical butterflies and interpreting the data drawn by those in projected 3D space. This project was not only technological encounter of hack for Microsoft Kinect and VVVV software, but much more an reflection on esthetical abstraction overcoming the classical borders between the ‘natural’ and ‘designed’ beauty.
The work in progress and first results of the project were presented at special event in Centre for Contemporary Art, DOX Prague, on 15.5.2014.
